Introduction |

Aratinga Tours was founded in 2004 by Belgian biologist Pieter Westra, who fell in love with Costa Rica during his many trips from 1991 untill 2002.
In 1999 Pieter made a thesis about diet and habitat-choice of the Red-backed Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri Oerstedi) in Potrero Grande, Costa Rica and in 2003 Pieter decided to leave Belgium and start a life in Costa Rica.
During his first years in the country Pieter worked as a local guide in Talari Mountain Lodge and as a guide / tour leader on several trips through Costa Rica.

| His love for Costa Rica and it's overwhelming natural beaty and avifauna in particular made Pieter decide to start with Aratinga Tours: a travel agency specializing in birdwatching trips in Costa Rica: the perfect way to be able to share his passion and knowledge with other nature lovers! |

.: Local guides:
A walk through the rainforest will be enjoyed much more in the company of a good local guide; locals are familiar with the complex nature characteristic for the tropical rainforest and therefore are good at spotting birds and other animals. Another advantage is that local guides often know the location of the regional specialities. Besides that, by using local guides you will stimulate the local economy. |

| Aratinga Tours only works with the best local nature and birding guides. All are English-speaking and have a broad ecological knowledge. Where possible we can also arrange specialized local birding gudies, equipped with quality telescope. |

If desired you can travel in Costa Rica accompanied by Pieter Westra, one of Costa Rica's best birding gudies. Pieter knows Costa Rica very well and is familiar with its birds and their songs. Pieter is equipped with Swarowski telescope and binoculars and I-pod with birdsongs. |
